Run Bonneville - Trail 5K & 25 Mile Relay

Salt Lake City, UT

On September 27th, 2014 a unique opportunity to soar above the Salt Lake Valley on the beautiful Wasatch Range awaits as you run the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Pick from a four person 25 mile relay or, 5K solo effort, or Half Marathon. With plenty of awards, door prizes and food to be had at the post race celebration, the inaugural Run Bonneville promises to be a day to remember.

5K Trail Run

Overview: Race Start Time is 10 AM. The start time will be staggered….fastest runners will begin ?rst. We will send 40 to 50 runners off every 30 seconds. This will allow the ?eld of runners to thin out in the ?rst half mile so that when single track trail is encountered there will be plenty of running room for everyone. Each runner will be independently chip timed, your ?nish time will be an accurate re?ection of what you accomplished that day.

Course: The 5k course starts and ends at This Is The Place, Heritage Park, located here www.thisistheplace.org. We will be utilizing the Brigham Young Forest Farmhouse for race staging. Runners will wind their way through Heritage Park for the ?rst quarter of a mile. At the quarter mile mark everyone will hit the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. The views from the trail are spectacular. The trail is a lolipop style course. While not an extremely dif?cult trail run, nonetheless it is still a challenging course. Beginners and experienced trail runners will love (and hate) the varied nature of the 5k course.

13.1 / Half Marathon Solo Run

Overview:
Race Start Time is 9 AM. The start time will be staggered….fastest runners will begin first. We will send 40 to 50 runners off every 30 seconds. This will allow the field of runners to thin out in the first half mile so that when single track trail is encountered there will be plenty of running room for everyone. Each runner will be independently chip timed, your finish time will be an accurate reflection of what you accomplished that day.

Course: The 13.1 mile course starts and ends at This Is The Place, Heritage Park, located here www.thisistheplace.org. We will be utilizing the Brigham Young Forest Farmhouse for race staging. Half Marathon runners will have the opportunity to run the 5K and 25 Mile Relay courses. These two courses will be linked together to create the 13.1 mile course.

25 Mile 4 Person Relay

Team Relays are simply a blast! The Bonneville Shoreline Trail 25 mile team relay offers fun for ?rst timers and a major challenge for experienced runners. There are 7 Categories to choose from for the relay: All Male, All Female, Coed, Masters Male, Master Female, Masters Coed (Masters category racers must total 160 + years of age), and Corporate/Business.

Relay Start Times 25 Mile 4 person Relay start times will be based upon the anticipated average pace for the entire team. Slowest paced teams will begin first at 7:30 AM. We ask that all teams average an 11:30 per mile pace or faster. When calculating your average team pace, remember that trail running times are slower than road running paces. And, not all members of your team have to be at an 11:30 per mile pace or lower, your team average must be at that level.
Projected Start times:

  • 7:30 AM: 11:00 to 11:30 pace teams
  • 7:40 AM: 10:30 to 11:00 pace teams
  • 7:50 AM 10:00 to 10:30 pace teams
  • 8:00 AM:9:30 to 10:00 pace teams
  • 8:10 AM: 9:00 to 9:30 pace teams
  • 8:20 AM: 8:30 to 9:00 pace teams
  • 8:30 AM: 8:00 to 8:30 pace teams
  • 8:40 AM: 7:30 to 8:00 pace teams
  • 8:50 AM: 7:30 and under pace teams

One of the race directors will be in contact with your Team Captain by September 8th to determine your exact starting time. Please note, start times may vary by 10 to 20 minutes based upon the reported start times of all teams. Please submit an accurate per mile pace for your team. If a team with a 7:00 minute per mile pace attempts to start with the 10:00 minute per mile pace teams, your team will be required to wait prior to beginning your second round of runners. We stagger the start to assure safety on the course, to create a great finish line environment, and to conduct an awards ceremony that can be attended by all category winners.

Each person on your 4 person team will run the 3.15 mile course two times. Each loop is on an out and back course…..you will start and ?nish your leg at the same location. Team members will run in the same order for both loops……Runner #1 will be Runner #5, Runner #2 will be Runner #6, Runner #3 will be Runner #7, and Runner #4 will be Runner #8. Your last runner, #8, will be joined at the quarter mile mark by your entire team…..all teams must complete the last quarter mile of the relay together.

Course: The 3.15 mile course starts and ends at the Brigham Young Forest Farmhouse at This Is The Place, Heritage Park. The ?rst quarter of a mile will wind it’s way through Heritage Park then veer sharply uphill to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. You will do a loop run that is approximately 2.5 miles long on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. The trail will have ?at sections that will allow you to take in the majestic views of the Salt Lake Valley and a few technical portions that will require your full attention to the trail. The course will be well marked with arrows, signage, and well staffed with volunteers. There will be a water and aid station at the half point of the loop.
